Whipped Cream and Other Delights

Ok -- raise your hand if you didn't own this record.

What record collection would be complete without this Herb Alpert masterpiece? Certainly not mine! It has been said that the thrift stores of any large city contain enough copies of "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" to wallpaper a house (I once found 10 copies in one small store in Cleveland, of which this one was in the best condition).

When I was growing up, "Whipped Cream" was one of only three records my parents had in their collection (the others were a Barbara Streisand album and a Johnny Mathis christmas record). My dad often dropped the needle on "Whipped Cream" over and over again during family gatherings -- and when no one was around, I'd spend hours admiring the cover art, attempting to discern exactly where the whipped cream ended and the young model began. You can do the same by clicking above for the extra hi-res version of the image. (Those of you that aren't inclined toward the female form can look for the way they used a drop-cloth to fake most of the cream, or if you're really bored, try to find the seam where I pasted the two halves of the scanned image together).

A record like this could easily have sold a billion copies on the strength of the photography alone, but "Whipped Cream and Other Delights" actually has some pretty snappy music on it. Pick up a copy today I can state with confidence that this album is available for $1.00 or less at a junk store or garage sale near you!

Wallpaper

I used Paint Shop to create a great Windows Desktop Wallpaper out of the Whipped Cream cover art by shifting the model to the right, cropping out the text and extending the background to the left (see the thumbnail below). I made three resolutions, so download the one that fits your desktop:

I hope you paid for that illegally downloaded LP, CJ.

Not only are you a horny bastard who still appears to get off on ol' Dolores there (how many years after the fact), but you steal music from the internet.

Nice....... (10-17-2004)

CJ says:
I was 14 years old when this album was released. Fond memories come to mind of the effect Dolores Erickson had on this hormone charged youth! The local radio station not only played the heck out of this album but utilized most of the cuts for local commercial production backgrounds. It wasn't until recently when I downloaded this album that I realized how these cuts were pleasantly engrained in my soul and just how great and timeless they really are. What a wonderful nostalgiac rush! (10-17-2004)

Dagwood Bumstead says:
Funny thing about this record, it seems like a lot of people like it for the music as well as the cover pic, but everyone who's into the music likes a different song. To me, "Ladyfingers" is far and away the best song on the record, but no one else mentioned it so far. Huh. (10-10-2004)

keep the site for usooooooooooooooooooooooo (10-04-2004)

Felicity (felicity@sissify.com) says:
I saw the cover to this record on a school field trip to a record store in Seattle back in the 1980s, and it was burned into my memory forever as one of the sexiest things ever. :-) (09-19-2004)

Herb Alpert's "Whipped Cream & Other Delights" is still a great album almost 40 years after it's release. Herb proved that there is nothing wrong with good music that makes you smile and tap your feet. It amazes me that some of today's so called "artists" don't follow Herb's example. There is untapped market of people (those 40-somethings) who grew up with the happy sound of the TJB who still would like to hear MORE! Thanks for a great site to honor a true "milestone" of popular music & culture. God bless Herb Alpert! (09-07-2004)

Karri (karri@surfeu.fi) says:
Eh... should I worry, since I still have this album and numerous other early Herb Albert vinyls. Great stuff mostly (honestly!), just give it a change. Besides the covers are really hilarious. (09-05-2004)

A Half-Price Books store in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (sorry, don't remember exactly where) has this record framed and on the wall. Funny, considering the incredible amount of copies one can get for almost free from thrift shops and such. I guess one man's trash is another man's treasure, although something tells me this isn't a very sought-after record. (08-29-2004)

musiclover says:
This is my third comment on this LP. I want to also tell you that the last track on this LP, "Lollipops and Roses", is AWESOME! If you are a Jack Jones fan, you will be surprised at how Alpert speeds up the tempo on this Jack Jones classic. You can even say he empahasizes the "sugar" of the lollipops in the arrangement! (08-28-2004)

musiclover says:
another snappy song on this LP is their burlesque treatment of The Searchers "Love Potion no.9" This album was one of the many Herb Alpert covers you can find if you watch any of the California episodes of another Vinyl Museum inductee, "Laverne & Shirley". The other albums include "The Lonely Bull", "The Beat of the Brass", and "Volume Two". In the episode where the ladies decide to move to California, you find "What Now My Love", and "Greatest Hits", which only made an appearance on this episode only. (08-24-2004)

musiclover says:
I am probably one of the few people out there who bought this album for the music and not the cover, and in true TJB fashion, It's GREAT!! In addtion to the tracks mentioned above, another awesome cut is a little snappy number called "Green Peppers". (08-21-2004)

I too have an obsession with ?Whipped Cream and Other Delights" ? ever since childhood and to this day.
So much so in fact that I have collected of all the commercial formats of the WCAOD album (cassette, CD, LP, reel to reel)
I have mounted them in a frame that proudly hangs in my living room.
I also own approximately 50 copies of the record that are displayed in my music room. (Yeah, I know crazy.)
It?s really a good album! (and all the titles are related to food. Yum!)
?Going Places? is really good too. (08-11-2004)

Peanut Head, apart from Little Jimmy Osmond, who else do you like? And why does your mommy keep calling you. Let her know that you are busy, keeping us entertained! By the way, the lady is not covered in cream, but shaving foam. I understand that her beaver was so bushy, that she had no choice but use that much. That hair did not go to waste though, she made a mint in making wigs for the poor. (05-01-2004)

Peanut Head (peehed@yahoo.whatever) says:

Love An Admirer! (04-30-2004)
