We're The Banana Splits

Your childhood TV rock-n-roll idols, on vinyl!

One of the greatest things about the music of the 60's is how it accessible it was to just about anyone. The cool kids had the Beatles and the Stones; middle America watched the Monkees; the hippies had the Dead and Jefferson Airplane; even Mom and Dad could swing to a homogenized version of Lennon & McCartney done up by Enoch Light or Tony Bennett. And for the toddlers, there were these weirdos, the Banana Splits.

I was suprised at how good some of the songs on this hard to find LP are (thanks to my friend Gary who let me borrow his copy). I'm not saying the Banana Splits were the next Beatles, but compared to the kind of music they make for kids today (the Barney theme comes to mind) this stuff kicks ass. Let's hear it for Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper and Snork!

Some of earliest memories is watching this show. I am in the process of making my own CD of their songs. I do have the LP, and have taped the show off the "Boomrang" channel, so I do have a lot of their songs. HOWEVER, I seem to have trouble finding "Let Me Remember You Smiling" and "The Pretty Carousal". PLEASE, if anyone has it, and is willing to share it with me, let me know.

The girls in the white go go boots were The Sour Grapes. Wikipedia has an excellent article about the show and the music from the show that brought back a lot of memories and gives a complete discography.
The show sold two what we'd call EP's today through some Kellogg's cereal (Kellogg's sponsored the show) and me and my brother got them both. They disappered years ago when we moved, and now the folks have moved again. so I think they are gone for good. Dad found a certificate from The Banana Splits Club for me and my brother and like the records, it's vanished too. I think it just fell apart, it was in pretty bad shape. The EP is the bigger loss, I can still remember several songs off them that I haven't heard in thirty years. They are: I Enjoy Being A Boy, That's The Pretty Part Of You, Let Me Rememeber You Smiling, and something I call Doin The Banana Splits Show (that's about all there was for lyrics to that song too) that Wikepedia says had Barry White on vocals. I must have played that record to death because I can still recall big chunks of the lyrics. (11-11-2007)

Nostalgic (and scary) when I had the epiphany that these are two of the only clear
childhood memories I have before the age of 6. And I am pretty confident my parents did
not experiment with LSD or magic mushrooms...
Does anyone know if they are currently being aired on cable? (10-07-2007)

Older Creston,
I was just watching an episode of the Banana Splits and can confirm that their buggies are AMPHICAT. Not sure what model, but obviously the 6 wheeled model.

Fluff,
The Banana Splits were before Bob Marley's Buffalo Soldier:

Nice site, just wanted to ask if you'd noticed that the new Ben and Jerry Ice Cream, released this week (15 August 2007) is called Banana Split. Their logo is a direct rip off of the original Banana Splits logo, minus the s. Go get a pint before Ben and Jerry's has to pull the package. (08-19-2007)

T (Saphie5@gmail.com) says:
Does anyone know where to get music that they played on the show? The ones that had lyrics in chorus like "...Wait till tomorrow, tomorrow we will learn to love again..." and "...I enjoy, being a boy, in love with you..." etc. They aren't the songs of the show, but they played them on the show. I love those songs! I can't find them...anyone? (05-22-2007)
