We're The Banana Splits

Your childhood TV rock-n-roll idols, on vinyl!

One of the greatest things about the music of the 60's is how it accessible it was to just about anyone. The cool kids had the Beatles and the Stones; middle America watched the Monkees; the hippies had the Dead and Jefferson Airplane; even Mom and Dad could swing to a homogenized version of Lennon & McCartney done up by Enoch Light or Tony Bennett. And for the toddlers, there were these weirdos, the Banana Splits.

I was suprised at how good some of the songs on this hard to find LP are (thanks to my friend Gary who let me borrow his copy). I'm not saying the Banana Splits were the next Beatles, but compared to the kind of music they make for kids today (the Barney theme comes to mind) this stuff kicks ass. Let's hear it for Fleagle, Bingo, Drooper and Snork!

Tra la la tra la la la. Tra la la Tra la la la. One acid, two acids, three acids four. Four acids make us trip and so do many more.

The guys who made this also made HR Pufnstuff. I think they were trippin pretty heavily in the 60's and 70's. Maybe i should take some drugs and make a cool tv show. (11-21-2004)

Mad Dr. Matt ( says:
Not many people know Barry White (oh baby, oh baby!) wrote a lot of the music for the Banana Splits. Barry was just an up-and-coming songwriter at the time, and worked on music for several cartoon shows. None of them had orgasmic women moaning during the theme songs, as far as I know. That certainly would have been a selling point if they had... (11-16-2004)

For the people who keep asking about where to find records/cds/tapes/videos - remember - EBAY is your friend ! I doubt Warner will ever release the BS on dvd - but you never know - it would take a HUGE letter writting campaign to get them motivated ... But they are releasing other HB properties so you never know (Jetsons, Flinstones,Jonny Quest, Top Cat, Wacky Races)

Im lucky enough to own 3 original 45s and no they arent for sale :) (10-19-2004)

Furries all around the world would be a few levels cooler on the geek scale if they could only perform
"Doin' The Banana Split"

That song really rocks the funk out, and is probably the coolest tune Barry White ever composed. (09-27-2004)

splits says:
This show was ahead of it's time. There were no shows like it before, but has since had many imitators. (09-26-2004)
