The Merseyside Sound! New From Britain!!

We laughed when we heard the Ruttles and Spinal Tap singing fake Beatle songs, but this is for real. Beatlemania was so big back in the 60's that it spun off dozens of cheap imitations like this one. With an album jacket screaming "Beats!!! The Merseyside Sound! The New Beat from Britain!" and four guys trying to look like the Beatles, the only thing this album is missing is actual Beatle music.

Were Beatle fans so stupid that they didn't realize they were being taken? Or were records like this aimed at their parents, who weren't paying enough attention to know the difference? I don't know, but one thing is for sure: the music on "Beats!!!" is just plain awful. Pick up a copy at a thrift store or eBay auction near you and listen for yourself. You'll be thankful that Lennon and McCartney had some actual talent to back up the phenomenon they started.

Tell Me I'm The One (Real Audio) Recycled beatlemania at its finest.
Your Kind of Love (Real Audio) A twisted beatle-esque song about monogomy, I think.

"The Butcher Album" was actually the first cover of the U.S. release "'Yesterday' And Today", which came out in 1966 (it featured the song "Yesterday", released as a single the previous year, and several new tracks).

Only a small number of copies were distributed before the albums were recalled to be replaced with a more sedate cover. In some cases, Capitol Records simply pasted on the new front cover over the old one. (03-17-2006)

Sheri Williams says:
Can anyone confirm the rumor that Julian Lennon has formed a new band? I have a cousin who works as a studio drummer in New York. He is saying, that Zak Starky (Ringo Starr's son) and Julian Lennon have been jamming together for a while. But here recently they have been seen with James Paul McCartney, and it is being rumored that they are forming a new band which will be the Beatles 2nd Generation.

The rumor is coming to my cousin from a very reliable source.. However, I am not at liberty to name any names. I hope it is true! Wouldn't it be great!

There are so many Beatle fans that I bet they would make more money than any band has ever made.. and personally I don't care if they are doing it for the money.. I just love the Beatles.. lol

I was just wondering if anyone has heard of "The Butcher Album? The Beatles made
It is a rare album and was covered because the
album cover had The Beatles in butcher jackets
with meat cut up on them.
If anyone has any information on this album
please e-mail me with any web sites, etc.

Thanks alot (10-22-2005)

I have this LP, actually another pressing from 1964 and the band is called Billy Pepper and the Pepperpots and most of the songs are credited to Bill Shepherd and some to Jimmy Fraser. (09-10-2005)

Sarcasmus says:
This doesn't really sound that Beatlish, it just sounds "60s", sorry lads. (08-31-2005)

Remember when The Beatles were more popular that Jesus? (07-24-2005)

Mike Garner ( says:
"I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND" and "I SAW HER STANDING THERE" were actually written by Lennon and McCartney, but the authors of the other songs were never mentioned on the album. Any clue as to who wrote them? I love the song "SEEMS TO ME," and the other songs were just fine. And any clue as to who the BEATS really are? (06-11-2005)

Perhaps the closest they've been to Britain was a trip to their local Arthur Treacher's. (05-26-2005)

MoonDog Green says:
Hey...This is still better than most of the crap that passes for music these days, even though it's cheesy. Goes to show you how the state of music has devolved since the 1980's for the most part. (05-15-2005)

Mad Dr. Matt ( says:
Ahhh! It was a time of innocence, wasn't it? Even the con-artists were endearing somehow. I mean, somebody went to a lot of trouble to assemble, write and record a group of Liverpool Lads who were "not the real Beatles, but an incredible simulation." Okay, not so incredible. I wonder if any of them ended up in the cast of "Beatlemania" in the eighties. Probably not - Allen Klein probably had them hunted down and their fingers broken long before that. Now we have big-earred ex-frat boys pretending to be presidents. Personally, I MUCH prefer the OLD SCHOOL con-artists.

Closed caption for the "Elvis is Lord crew" - GET OFF CRACK! Word up - if you wind some aluminum foil around yer head REAL tight - it stops all those nasty alien transmissions! I outta know. Now if I could only do something about all these leprechauns...

By the way, I do believe in Jesus. As the Monkees would say, "I'm A Believer!" I am a flat-out-for Jesus "Jesus Freak." And... Jesus Is Just Alright With Me (the Doobies). And... Jesus Is STILL Alright With Me (DC Talk). I meant to use the word "they" instead of "the" in my previous posting. Just thought I'd let it be known. (10-12-2004)

Joli ( says:
Wow... there's more about Elvis & Jesus on this web page than about the Beats. I must agree... the are very Beatle-esque in their sound. I have to admit I like the Beatles ALOT better however. They sound more nasal or whiney, albeit, in a more low-pitched kinda way. (10-12-2004)

Well, for once Elvis "God" McFatter, I would have to agree with you.

It would appear the zealots have taken over the vinyl asylum.

Richard Cranium says:

"Elvis Is/Was/As God". Just like opening the door to the fundamentalists, pushing their religion down your throat. Can't close the door fast enough to shut them up.

I'm wondering though, what kind of message GOD-Elvis was trying to convey when he sings, "Hunka-hunka burning love..".

Yup, like I said earlier, this website has decayed through postings by morons, bumpkins and now, ELVIS RELIGIOUS FANATIC/FUNDAMENTALISTS.

I, for one, will no longer partake of the joys this website once offered. I leave the bandwidth to all you idiots out there.

The sweetness of my desert air will no longer act as a calming influence over the intellectually challanged.
