Ethel Merman Disco Album

I've got rhythm... like no rhythm you've heard before.

Ethel Merman, 70's disco diva? It's true -- or at least, they gave it a shot with this surreal 1979 release on A&M records. With Cher and Streisand having blazed the trail, it was only a matter of time before Merman was called upon to belt out disco versions of her classic tunes.

Thank god disco died when it did... who knows how far it would have spread had it lasted?

Update: Saints preserve us the Ethel Merman Disco Album is now available on CD! Why scour thrift store record bins for the next six years when you can just click and buy online? It's just the thing for your next swinging dance party!

Dee Michel ( says:
I just drove two hours yesterday from Western Mass achusetts to Stamford Ct to see a show called "I GOT MERMAN". It wasnt' very good, too much schtick and mugging and sophomoric jokes, but it was a great tribute to La Merm anyway. And it made me wonder about the Disco Album. Thanks for having this sound file available. (09-19-2001)

Dermot says:
This is great, but do you have her singing, "Get up and Boogie?" (08-30-2001)

Damian ( says:
While I have this on vinyl AND cassette, I've yet to see Ethel perform any disco on TV/video. Anybody out there have it????!!!! (08-28-2001)

PenisDemilo ( says:

Gadfly says:
Remember that time at Studio 54 when Ethel was serviced simultaneously by both Mick AND Bianca Jagger? Oh yeah . . . that was Menacchem Begin, not Ethel. . . . (07-31-2001)

Mike ( says:
Jay it was Call Me Madam. The Song is "You're Just In Love" Score by Berlin.

I love this album. It has been my personal holy grail- I finally found a copy a coupla years ago. (07-31-2001)

Jesse says:
Frank, a friend just turned me on to this site and ... you are a genius. Ethel Merman ... disco ... I'm listening right now and I think I see Jesus. (07-26-2001)

maus ( says:
uh muh gawd...dear Lord, why? WHY?! WHY?!?! (07-25-2001)

Rick Jakeman ( says:
I bought this LP when released but believe it or not it was stolen causing much heartache, I dont have too many memories of this era due to a drug enduced stupor, but Ethel still rocks, the best set of lungs ever.....Boogie on Ethel. (07-25-2001)

Vynyl Junkie ( says:
In the PBS documentary "History of Rock n' Roll", there is a segment on Disco and this album actually gets mentioned along with the Dolly Parton disco record (It was a 12" single called "Baby I'm Burnin'" pressed on hot pink vinyl). I thought they were joking about the Ethel Mermon disco LP, but Frank does it again and finds this 'treasure' from the disco era. The only thing worse than this would be an album entitled "Mermon & Mrs. Miller sing Beatles to that crazy disco beat!" Gawd - I'd rather eat broken glass... (06-29-2001)

The Lone Beatnik ( says:
I bet this woman's never even set foot inside a disco. If she dances at all like she sings, I'm stayin' far far away from her. Look at the cover. The mysterious hat man is chasing her to smother her with his hat so she'll shut up. She laughs. Ha ha. There's no business like NONE. (06-14-2001)

Roman Pativ says:
I'm not wearing any pants right now. (06-11-2001)

Eric ( says:
Oh god...I think I sold a copy of this at the record store I work at. I had to put it in the window, too funny. I don't even want to listen to it, I'm very, very scared. (06-08-2001)

Jimmy Starlight says:
I had intercourse with Ethel on one of my disco-induced coke binges at Studio 54.

I can't remember if it was any good. (06-08-2001)

Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler says:
Ever tried eating pizza and washing it down with orange juice? Well, that's how well Ethel Merman and disco go together.

Yeech. (06-08-2001)
