The Odd Couple Sings

Tony Randall & Jack Klugman with more misguided music from TV land.

Just when I thought I'd heard the last of singing TV characters, this gem shows up. It's Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, playing their famous characters Felix and Oscar... and singing. Why?

I tried to sing once, and I ended up sounding a lot like Jack Klugman does on this record. But at least I had the decency not to subject myself to thousands of unsuspecting record buyers.

Songs:

Johnny One Note (MP3) Klugman tests out his voice.
You're So Vain (MP3) It's the Odd Couple, "singing" Carly Simon's big hit. Holy crap!
When Banana Skins Are Falling (MP3) Sounds like something Felix would sing on the show.

James (alf_boy2000@yahoo.com) says:
It was a popular show with characters that were well written and very well portrayed. So what next? A movie? A song and dance television special? Or a... This record is something that we don't have anymore these days. I'm not sure with what words and even how to describe it. In today's high tech world of internet, MTV, Vulgar humor, and sex sex sex everywhere we don't have anything like this anymore. It's a beautiful record and it's not Tony Randall just sings! OR Jack Klugman sings the hits of today! It's the odd couple and these two actors have CHEMISTRY which is why this album is so great.

Beau Hajavitch (beauh@mts.net) says:
One of my favorite shows ever. I'll never forget Oscar writing football plays all over his bedroom wall to Felix's horror. I was 10 or 12 years old during its' heyday. Part of the ORIGINAL ABC TGIF lineup - Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Room 222, and Odd Couple!! (07-26-2007)

Buz Kohan says:
Having written "The Odd Couple Opera" and "Happy and Peppy and Bursting With Love", I was certainly aware of the quality of the voices of Tony and Jack, and that certainly was not a discouraging factor, but a definite plus when writing for their disparite musical talents. To the credit of both of them, they took on those assignments with the same professionalism and delicious sense of huimor that marked all their work, separately and together. For those of you who appreciate the jest, I thank you for your perception and good humor. For those of you who don't get the joke, how sad for you. Rest in peace Tony and sing on Jack. You were two of the brightest lights on TV..Buz Kohan (03-06-2007)

God Bless you Randall and Klugman! Simply hilarious! (11-19-2006)

I haven't heard these songs for - ever, and now that I have, I'm going to die of ecstacy, but I'll use my last few moments on earth to say that .... (09-26-2006)

Adnan Khashoggi says:
Klugman's singing improved after removal of his right vocal cord during surgery for cancer of the larynx. (08-05-2006)

Mad Dr. Matt (magob@aol.com) says:
The Odd Couple was the "comfort food" of 60-70's TV. You always knew what you were going to get. Oscar the slob. Felix the neat-freak. Tony Randall was a very funny guy, who had done Broadway musicals. Klugman, well, he's Klugman. The idea that these musical excursions were necessary for TV shows seems kinda quaint nonadays. Kinda like the Geneva Convention. (11-16-2004)

what the fuck (11-16-2004)

God bless Tony Randall's soul.

Gary (coinboynyc@yahoo.com) says:
"It's Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, playing their famous characters Felix and Oscar... and singing. Why?"

Why not? Anything that brings us more Odd Couple can't be bad.

"I tried to sing once, and I ended up sounding a lot like Jack Klugman does on this record. But at least I had the decency not to subject myself to thousands of unsuspecting record buyers."

With all due respect, you're not a well-known actor portraying a beloved TV character. Also, as Robert posted on 10/7/03, Jack Klugman knew he couldn't sing and "sung" from that perspective, he never pretended to be a great singer.

For an Odd Couple fan, this is a wonderful album. I have a pirated copy on CD but if it were legitimately released I would buy it. Hopefully it would be an expanded edition, perhaps with other songs from the TV show - "Stumbling All Around" with Monty Hall, "Happy, Peppy and Bursting With Love" with Jaye P. Morgan, and Felix' tribute to Oscar ("O is for the oldest friend I know, S is for the way he saved my life...") come to mind, there may be more. (08-19-2004)

LA LA LA LA (lala@lala.com) says:
Where is the version of The Frut's "Take your clothes off and I'll love you" that Jack and Tony recorded? It's a must have record. (06-21-2004)

Caveman says:
I wish they'd re-issue this! It's great!!!

RIP Tony Randall..... (05-20-2004)
