The Other Side of the Island...

Toying with AI image generation

I thought of this joke years ago while scrolling through a collection of mock book covers and movie posters. I’ve got no artistic ability in this realm so I never thought anything would come of it, but today there’s AI image generation.

The phrase “The other side of the island” was used countless times in Gilligan’s Island to posit some situation happening out of sight of the main camp. As one might expect, there’s no shortage of books, films and other media having assumed the title. So here’s my contribution, for what it’s worth.

I used the ChatGPT image generator to make this. It rendered the title and I added the other text later. I have to admit that while I had always imagined the actual faces of Bob Denver and Dawn Wells, the generic AI versions are even better. My only complaint is that every time I asked for a small modification I got a completely different image, but it’s a pretty minor one.
